Concrete Cathedral Director Sage Okafor on the New Indie Wave

A guerrilla-shot debut feature, a Tribeca premiere, and a manifesto for the underground.

By Mira Salazar

Director Sage Okafor's first feature was shot in 17 days across five boroughs of New York City with a crew of nine and a budget that wouldn't cover a single day of a studio production. It premiered at Tribeca to a standing ovation. 'Underground film isn't a budget category,' Sage explains. 'It's a worldview.'
